Riders give insight to aid Epic preparations
As the official medical service provider for the Absa Cape Epic and many other world-class events, Mediclinic has expanded the health screening questionnaire that forms part of the race registration process. Race doctor Jann Killops provides insight as to why riders are being asked for a full race history before key events.

Mediclinic has partnered as official medical partner with the race since its inception 15 years ago and once again the team look forward to being of assistance to you during this year’s event! We would also like to provide some insight into how we believe we can best combat the influences of the drought on the race.
Elmar Sprink – a rider with heart
Elmar Sprink is an amazing example of how the human body can face anything – when it is provided the necessary training and support. As a heart transplant recipient Elmar spent months waiting for a heart to become available, and when he was given the opportunity for a new lease on life, he grabbed it with both hands.

This year saw 1300 riders in the starting blocks of the 2017 Absa Cape Epic. Of those riders only 47 were medically treated for a number of different injuries.
