TRUTH OR TALE NO. 13

Posted on 1 January 2018

When pregnant you should eat for two.

ANSWER: Tale

Unfortunately there is little truth to this tale, and indulging each and every craving and eating seconds is not necessary during a normal, healthy pregnancy.

Studies have consistently shown that during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy an increase of roughly 300 calories per day is normal. That’s far less than simply doubling the amount of calories consumed.

What’s far more vital is to ensure that the diet is balanced while the overall nutritional value is increased. This will help ensure that both the mother and her unborn baby are receiving everything they need for healthy development.
