Mediclinic Events team kept busy at MTB events

The Mediclinic Events team of 3 doctors and 4 nurses were kept busy over the last 4 days of serious mountain bike racing at Boschendal and environs, where the Cape Argus Pick n Pay MTB Challenge and Nashua Grape Escape took place. Nearly 5000 riders took part in the two events, young and old, novice as well as some of the top MTB champions in the world like Christoph Sauser, Tim Böhme (Team Bulls) and local stars in Candice Neethling and Erik Kleinhans took stage or race wins.

One hundred and twenty four riders were treated and 10 of them were so serious that they were stabilised at the Mediclinic race hospital before being transported to various hospitals in the area. A number of lacerations to knees and elbows were sutured in the race hospital. Suspected fractures were stabilised before patients were send to the nearest hospital for X-rays. Several riders suffered from conditions related to dehydration and overheating.
